Fireflies!
Fireflies are amazing creatures that create the most magical veiw that you'll ever see! Not many people know this but fireflies are not flies at all they're actually beetles. They are nocturnal, meaning that they come out at night. That's when we humans see them. Fireflies are commonly called lightning bugs. despite their name a lot of species of fireflies cannot produce light. For example the fireflies in Western America lack the ability to produce light.
Habitat!
Fireflies like to live in humid areas. They thrive in forests, fields and marshes near lakes or pools. Fireflies come out in the summer time and are on every continent except Antarctica. Fireflies are found in different parts of the world from North and South America to Europe and Asia. some species of firefly larvae are aquatic and have gills while others live in trees their entire life. Because fireflies are nocturnal during most of the day they hide in the grass. If you mow your law you are likely to disturb your firefly population. Almost no species of fireflies are found in Kansas (usa.) At night fireflies fly into the trees and attract mates.
